A Career as a Dental Technician

Dental Technicians are healthcare professionals whose scope of work includes the design, construction, repair or alteration of dental appliances or devices. These devices include crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures, implants and other appliances used to enhance a person's ability to eat and smile.

How do I qualify?

A Dental Technician (RDT) must undertake education and training to a minimum standard as indicated by the General Dental Council’s Curricula for Dental Technicians. The following qualifications are recognised in the UK for registration purposes: Foundation Degree/EdExcel/BTEC National Diploma in Dental Technology/Scotvec Higher National Certificate in Dental Technology/ BSc Hons.

What qualifications does a dental technician need?

A registered dental technician (RDT) had undergone education and training to a minimum standard to meet the General Dental Council's curriculum. Currently, the Foundation Degree Edexcel/BTEC National Diploma in Dental Technology BSc, BSc(Hons) and Scotvec Higher National Certificate in Dental Technology fulfil the requirement for registration.
