GDC Consultation opens on their strategic plans for the next three years
GDC have opened a consultation on their plans for the next three years. They are seeking views on their proposed strategy which focuses on ways both to prevent patient harm and to be proportionate when handling the concerns they receive, progressing their ambition to shift the balance from enforcement to prevention.

More healthcare professionals given powers to certify fit notes
From 1 July 2022 nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and physiotherapists will all be able to legally certify fit notes – something that at present only doctors can do. If you’ve been off work with illness for more than seven days, a fit note provides evidence to your employer about your absence and any relevant advice on how to support you to remain in or return to work.

Making sure you are on track with your CPD
The annual renewal period for dental care professionals opened on 13 June 2022. One of the requirements is to make a compliant CPD statement by the 28 August deadline. Last year around 3,000 (4.5%) dental care professionals did not manage to complete this step on time (for reasons unrelated to COVID-19).
The GDC have looked into why compliance levels appear to be worsening and found a need to improve understanding of the basic requirements of the Enhanced CPD scheme.

• ensure you have had all of the vaccines you are eligible to receive
• continue to follow any condition-specific advice you may have been given by your specialist
The following advice on 'keeping yourself safe' is aimed at adults. Children and young people can continue to attend education settings unless their clinician has advised otherwise.

Your 2021-2022 CPD cycle year ends on 31 July, and you are required to submit a statement to us by 28 August 2022. The statement should detail the number of CPD hours you have completed during this year.
