New research report published: 'Understanding and evaluating early career dental professionals'
The GDC have published the findings of a comprehensive research study aimed at understanding the experiences, perceptions, and attitudes of early career dental professionals towards their regulatory body.
The research, commissioned by the GDC and conducted independently by SQW, shows that most early career dental professionals hold either a positive (44%) or neutral (30%) perception of the General Dental Council (GDC), with dental care professionals viewing the GDC more favourably than dentists

Lord Toby Harris: A view from the chair
Lord Toby Harris welcomes, Tom Whiting as the GDC's new Chief Executive and Registrar at the beginning of the month.He has a full programme in place to meet key partners and stakeholders and he will of course be at the Council meeting on 21 June. Tom has joined at a very opportune time as there is no slowing down of the GDC’s priorities, and much thinking underway about the next corporate strategy which we will consult on next year.

Your annual renewal period 2024
Dental technologists, it’s nearly time for you to complete your annual renewal. This year, your renewal opens on 10 June and closes on 31 July 2024. In that time, you’ll need to make sure you’ve done three things: paid your Annual Retention Fee (ARF), checked you have indemnity cover in place, and that you’ve completed your minimum number of CPD hours. This can all be done via your eGDC profile, and you can log in at any time to check how many hours of CPD you need to complete. Dental technicians must complete at least 50 hours for each CPD cycle, and clinical dental technicians need to do at least 75 hours.

New powers for dental and pharmacy staff to free up appointments
Government announces plans to give greater powers to pharmacy technicians, dental therapists and hygienists following 2 public consultations. The move will help to free up access to care for patients across dental practices and pharmacies. The new plans build on efforts to improve access to primary care, including through Pharmacy First and the dental recovery plan.

Maintaining an effective workforce
The first of the Dental Leadership Network (DLN) events of 2024 took place on Thursday 14 March at Friends House, Euston, London. In which DTA President Mr Delroy Reeves was in attendance.
The core purposes of the DLN are to build relationships across the dental sector, identify and agree shared challenges, and take organisational and collaborative responsibility for addressing the issues dentistry faces.

New application processing fee for those who want to sit the ORE

In memory of John Brookman, 1931-2024
John Brookman FCGDent, FFGDP(UK)(Hon.), one of the founding board members of the Faculty of General Dental Practice, and the founder of Vocational Training for GDPs, passed away peacefully on 27 January, aged 92.
