DTA Recognises World Mental Health Day and Supports Headway UK

By DTA | 10th October 2026 | News

World Mental Health Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness of mental health and remind us all of the importance of looking after our wellbeing, both at work and in our personal lives.

Mental health matters every day, and taking the time to check in with ourselves, our colleagues, friends and family can make a real difference. A simple question such as "How are you really doing?" can help open up conversations and remind others that they are not alone.

At the DTA, we recognise the importance of creating a supportive environment where people feel able to talk about their wellbeing and seek support when they need it. Taking a moment to listen, show understanding and look out for one another can have a positive impact.

The DTA is also proud to support Headway UK as our Charity of the Year. Headway supports people affected by brain injury, alongside their families and carers, providing information, guidance and support to help them navigate the challenges that brain injury can bring. To find out more about Headway UK and the support they provide, visit www.headway.org.uk .

This World Mental Health Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to check in with themselves and those around them. By continuing to raise awareness, encouraging open conversations and showing compassion, we can all play a part in supporting one another.

Remember, it's okay not to be okay, and you don't have to face things alone.

Where to Find Mental Health Support

If you are struggling with your mental health, please remember that support is available and you do not have to face things alone.

The following services offer free support, information or someone to talk to:

  • Samaritans: Call 116 123, free, 24 hours a day.
  • Shout: Text SHOUT to 85258 for free, confidential text support, available 24/7.
  • NHS urgent mental health support (England): Call 111 and select the mental health option if you need urgent help.
  • Mind: Visit www.mind.org.uk  for mental health information and guidance.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to your nearest A&E department.

Reaching out for support is a positive step. Whether you are experiencing difficulties at work or in your personal life, talking to someone can help.

This World Mental Health Day, let's continue to look out for one another across the dental profession.
