Help us shape the future of Dental Technician Training in Scotland - Survey Invitation
By DTA | 7th October 2025 | Blog
If you are responsible for the recruitment and employment of trainee dental technicians, the NHS Education for Scotland invite you to participate in this short survey.
The University of Aberdeen have recently made the decision to suspend student intakes to the Dental Technician Training programme for both academic years of 2025/26 and 2026/27. As the only approved programme/qualification in Scotland, leading to registration with the General Dental Council (GDC), this decision presents a critical risk to the sustainability of the dental workforce. Without action, there will be no output of newly qualified dental technicians in Scotland after 2027.
NHS Education for Scotland is actively engaging with Further and Higher Education institutions towards developing a new education and training pathway for dental technicians in Scotland.
Your input is essential to help them to gather current data to understand workforce demand and inform future planning and training provision required in Scotland.
We would greatly appreciate your time to complete this short questionnaire, and we encourage you to share this survey with relevant networks such as laboratory owners and managers across Scotland.

The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete and will close at 12 noon on Friday 17 October. If you completed the questionnaire in March 2025, we kindly ask you to complete it again to submit a response.
