Scotland announces new chief dental officer

By DTA | 3rd December 2025 | News

It has been confirmed that Gillian Leslie will assume the role of Chief Dental Officer (CDO) for Scotland from 1 January 2026, following the retirement of the current CDO, Tom Ferris.

Dr Leslie is well known within the Scottish dental community, having served as Deputy Chief Dental Officer since 2021.

Prior to this, she worked as Principal Dentist and practice owner at Bridge Dental Care in Tranent. Her extensive career spans general practice, hospital and maxillofacial services, and earlier military dental service, providing a valuable blend of clinical expertise and business leadership.

During her time as Deputy CDO, Dr Leslie was closely involved in the recent NHS dental payment reform in Scotland, drawing on her experience as both a clinician and practice owner to help shape its development.

The DTA extends its congratulations to Dr Gillian Leslie on her appointment. As the professional body representing dental technologists, we look forward to working with her office to ensure that the contributions of dental technologists are recognised and reflected in future policy and reform across Scotland.
