President's Blog - August 2017
Here we are in August and the holiday season is well and truly with us. I don't know about you but I've noticed that travelling to work is slightly calmer!
We are delighted to welcome a number of new members to the Association in July, many of whom wanted to access preferential professional indemnity rates offered to DTA members by UK Special Risks. Read more @ http://www.ukspecialrisks.co.uk/dental-laboratory-insurance.asp
July was a busy month for DTA with a number of meetings, preparation for the August issue of The Technologist and taking forward plans to strengthen DTA for the future. I'll start with The Technologist.
The Technologist, August 2017
This issue has some regular features, articles and news. Articles include:
- Chartered accountant Peter Blake looks at the often difficult issue of pricing
- Freelance HR consultant Richard Mander examines health and safety essentials
- Stephen Lusty examines vertical preparations, also known as biologically oriented preparation techniques.
- We also catch up with Ashley Byrne, who was recently awarded a DTA Fellowship for his outstanding contribution to dental technology, and find out more about his career so far.
Do you have any hints or tips you'd like to share with other DTA members – don't hesitate to send them in to the office (firstname.lastname@example.org) .
July attended three key meetings during June – the GDC's profession-wide complaint handling development group, Dental Professional Forum and CoDTEI.
12 July - DTA attended the GDC's Professional Forum, held in Wimpole Street, London. Topics discussed included an update from GDC staff on Shifting the Balance, the Fitness to Practice end-to-end review, Enhanced Continuing Professional Development and on-line self-triage for fitness to practise complaints. Other presentations covered an update on the work of the Regulation of Dental Services Programme Board and the Department of Health. The next meeting will be held just before Christmas.
14 July - DTA provided administrative support for a meeting of the Conference of Dental Technology Educational Institutions (CoDTEI) which was hosted by the Leeds Dental Institute. CoDTEI provides a forum for information exchange and dissemination on matters relevant to dental technology education and training. Colleges share good practice, innovation, and assessment methods to enhance and increase opportunities for the provision of dental technology education.
18 July - DTA has been part of the GDC's profession-wide complaint handling development group since it began. Discussions continue with the aim of creating a national joint statement on the principles of good complaints handling.
