President's Blog - June 2018
It is so good to see the summer sunshine and to enjoy time out in the garden, sitting, pottering and socialising.
May was a busy month for DTA as we attended the major dental technology show – DTS – at the NEC. So, I'll start with that!
Dental Technology Show 2018 (DTS)
After weeks of planning our stand, working on our 10th anniversary publication and baking a cake (!), the DTA stand was set up and ready for visitors on Thursday 17 May. The show opened bright and early on the Friday and it was great to see so many members, to catch up on their news and see how the world of dental technology is treating them – some good news stories and some not so good.
The DTS is now the leading dental technology event in the UK and offers a choice of lectures and presentations, as well as those all important trade stands to visit. This year the DTS had over 80 exhibitors including WHW Plastics Ltd, Davis Schottlander& Davis Ltd, Solvay, IvoclarVivadent Ltd, and Straumann UK Ltd even brought their juggernaut to meet and greet visitors! I did notice a number of stands with digital kit – things are changing.
There were no less than 24 speakers across the two days, offering a range of presentations from perfect fitting dentures and GDPR to occlusion and sleep apnoea.
Both days were extremely busy for the DTA team and we headed home with lots of news, enthusiasm for our profession and slightly sore feet!
Dental Professionals Conference 2018
Later this year, on 14 & 15 of September 2018 the first ever Dental Professionals Annual Conference, will be held, hosted by the Orthodontic Technicians Association (OTA). It takes place at the Park Plaza Hotel in Nottingham in association with FutureLabs, the Dental Technologists Association (DTA) and the Society of British Dental Nurses (SBDN).
There's a comprehensive two-day programme for the event, with up to 10 hours of CPD to be earned. Everyone in the dental field is welcome to attend and conference speakers include Larry Browne, Tony Knight, James Green, Des Solomon, Stuart Marlow and many more.
