President's Blog - January 2019
Happy New Year and welcome to the first blog of 2019. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed a well deserved break.
I was privileged to spend some time at Crisis at Christmas with colleagues from Den-Tech. The charity does some amazing work and I was humbled to see them in action.
The DTA welcomes Rebecca Ciriaco as Operations Co-ordinator
Before Christmas we interviewed for the new Operations Co-ordinator position and it gives me great pleasure to announce that Rebecca Ciriaco has been appointed and took up the role from 2nd January 2019. This is fantastic news for the DTA andthe selection panel feel that Rebecca will be a great addition to our team.
Rebecca joins us from the charity, WellChild, where she was the Head of Social Events. She has BA Joint Honours degree in Business Management and Event Management and will bring a wealth of skills and experience to the DTA. Welcome Rebecca.

All-Party Parliamentary Group on Dentistry & Oral Health Christmas reception
The DTA was represented by John Stacey at the 2018 APPG for Dentistry & Oral Health Christmas reception at Westminster on 5 December. The reception was opened by Sir Paul Beresford, Chair of the APPG, who welcomed guests and introduced the Parliamentary Under Secretary for Public Health and Primary Care, Steve Brine. The Minister gave an address on the progress of dental contract reform, Starting Well and action on sugar; this was followed by words from Mick Armstrong of the BDA. Over 40 parliamentarians met with representatives of the major oral health organisations, dental press, and professional associations to talk about oral health issues.
The December issue of our e-journal, Articulate, is now available on the website. This issue contains an update on GDPR with 1.25 hours of verifiable CPD, information about various events in 2019, plus news and updates.

The Dental Technology Showcase (DTS) returns to Hall 5 of the NEC in Birmingham on 17 and 18May 2019. The DTS is the largest free to attend, education and trade event for the dental technicians. This event is a great opportunity to gain valuable CPD and don't forget to visit the DTA on stand H09!
